I'm Leaving Town
I'm tired of watching late night talk shows
I'm tired of being tired alone
As little as I sleep I'm always dreaming
That I can hear the silence of the phone.
I'm tired of waking up so early
Even the roosters put me down
I'm leaving town.
Don't tell me you ain't thought about it
Don't say the road ain't crossed your mind.
Boulder, Memphis, New Orleans and L.A.
Your ups and downs are just like mine.
Rain all night, rain in your eyes, no arms to wrap around
Sun comes up in muddy skies -- half moon going down:
I'm leaving town.
I'll bet you sometimes think it's funny
How everybody roams with tiny phones.
Buses, trains and crowded sweaty subways,
If we want to talk why do we stand alone?
Nothing can be done the world is changing.
More strange strangers all around:
I'm leaving town.
Don't want nobody giving answers,
Answers I can question on my own.
Does "Delta" still mean blues in mississippi?
Do coyotes still call Montana home?
And will she even pause to think about me
On Saturday - while she wears her wedding gown
I'm leaving town. |
